All capes and saddles that we sell have been grown here on our farm in Devon. We do not sell capes from any other source. All capes are washed before packaging and dyeing is also done here on site. We offer a colour matching service for a small charge and can usually match colours accurately.

We are pleased to allow you to look, see and feel the quality of our hackles with our easy access bags, which many other more expensive brands do not. It is very important to us that you are happy with your purchase.

Now a hugely improved quality, with lots of hackles ideal for palmering and many suitable for streamers too. Our Grade 1 has hackles up to 8 inches long and some even longer, still with a very slight taper. Unlike Whiting hackles, ours are ideal for many applications with the exeption of the small dry fly! But top quality and dyed in a huge range of colours. Our 'compleat' saddle (yes, we know that isnt how you spell complete!) is cut down into the leg giving wider, soft hackles, and up to the tail to include all the schlappen and represents fantastic value for the price. A totally unique product and one that we are very proud of.

Chickabou Patches

These patches are made from the 'cushion' of the bird and are totally unlike the other feathers from elsewhere on the body. These hackles are soft and fluffy, very water absorbent much like its larger cousin, marabou. It can be used for tails on smaller wet flies but it is also very useful tied in behind the head hackle to produce a real impression of movement. Denser than marabou but still a very useful hackle.

Non Genetic Capes
These capes are produced from birds selectively introduced into the flock to widen our colour range. Grown in the same way as our genetic flock but often with stiffer stems and lacking in the finer qualities. Barb length is often longer and less stiff than their genetic cousins but the natural colours produced are unmatchable by dying. Prices are generally by grade and graded according to cape rather than hackle quality. We have no 'standard' colour range, but are aiming to produce natural ginger, furnace, blue dun, honey dun, barred cream and various others including black. Please ask if there is something specific you need bearing in mind that very few of these naturals will tie small dry flies.

Cock Capes Grade 1   -   £25
Grade 2   -   £20
Grade 3   -   £15

Cock Saddles Grade 1   -   £13.50
Grade 2   -   £11
Grade 3   -   £7
Non Genetic Capes

We do have also a few select hens which are producing some good colours, including the much sought after 'Greenwells' Hen cape, but these are in very limited supply at the moment and also in great demand. Prices vary according to quality and usually individually marked.

Farm Visits
We are happy to receive interested parties of fly-tyers by arrangement, at time to suit. See how your genetic hackles are raised, learn about the various new colours being introduced and see our breeding birds running around in the beautiful Devonshire countryside. We are proud of the natural way our birds begin their lives.

Currently we have a few breeding jungle fowl, and are hoping to be setting small groups of the more exotic pheasants used in the tying of flies, which will also be on view for visitors.

Coach parties are welcome, we make a small charge for a complete tour which usually takes 2 hours, after which you are welcome to browse on our on-site showroom.

We have a co-operative arrangement with the Fox & Hound Hotel less than a mile away, where fishing on the River Taw can be arranged and we hightly recommend the meals served in the hotel, whether a light lunchtime snack or a more substantial evening meal. Accommodation also of an extemely high standard for those wanting to stay overnight.
